Hi. I’m Dick Patton.
I want to introduce myself and my interests. This is a Christian blog, and I started it as part of my ministry.
I retired last year as an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering. I have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, but I do not insist on people calling me doctor. You don’t need me for medical emergencies.
I became more devout as I got older. I desired to make inquiries that I had never made before, and I found some very interesting things about Christianity in those inquiries. I will be sharing those things with you.
Three things interest me at the moment. The first topic is faith. I will be discussing both theology and its impact. I believe that while talking about salvation is important in evangelizing, it is also important to show what difference Christians and Jesus Christ have made in the world. One theme will be the unity of the Body of Christ, and how we can have more unity. Another will be translating the Bible into the modern context. What are the duties of a Christian in this world? Another theme will be the impact of Christians on this world.
The second topic is character. What does it take to be a good Christian, and if we stray how does that affect the world? You’ll be surprised at the answer, because at root of many of our problems, including racism, is a lack of humility. Jesus washed the feet of his disciples to set an example. Can anyone imagine one of our current leaders following it?
The third topic is culture. We live surrounded by entertainers who despise us. How can we navigate our toxic culture, and can we build an alternative Christian culture? What myths and lies in popular culture have been propagated about us?
Outside of church, my interests include environmental issues and fiction. I like to read and will include book reports of the books I have read.
My Faith.
Our faith is an integral part of our lives. When we make a decision, we try to make it in conformity with Biblical teachings. As part of our mission, we try to spread our faith to others. When talking to non-believers, we are often made to feel wrong, as though our faith was a shameful thing. It is not shameful; we have a history of men and women, inspired by Christ, doing great things. Part of this website will be devoted to teaching the true story of Christians, and debunking the myths and lies told to us by humanists.
UNITY is what we are missing. Too often we do not regard our fellow brother or sister in Christ as being in the Body of Christ. Christ never wanted a divided church, but we are divided. Part of this website will be devoted to how all Christians can get closer to their fellow Christians, and so get closer to God.
